Bosch Rotak Review: Images
Key Features
- Cordless
- Innovative airflow technology (still haven’t figured out what this is!)
- Power Drive li (delivers consistently high torque for easy mowing of tough grass)
- Ergoflex handles with an AGR certificate. (ergonomic and easily adjustable handles)
- With innovative rake COMB for edge-cut cut (make it easier to mow along walls and borders)
- Fast-charging (takes about one hour)
Durability: 7.5
Well constructed but still light at only around 9kg, and robust enough to tackle all the challenges you might throw at it (within reason).
Also, if anything does go wrong the warranty from Amazon is available — with two years as standard. (make sure you check this is still the case at the time of purchase)
Design: 8
Out of the box you might need around 20 minutes to assemble this mower from the provided instructions. As usual with mower instructions these could be clear but you should be able to muddle through. (There are also a couple of youtube videos available to help if you get stuck).
The design itself is pleasing to the eye, and to the hand – with a nice little handle for transporting, and easily detachable grass box for those trips to the bin. Height of cut is easily adjusted from 20-60mm with a lever, and the sharpened steel blade is of sufficient strength.
Cut Quality: 8
The cut itself is very reasonable for a rotary, and the mower cuts right up to the edges without leaving any uncut areas.
Maneuverability: 9
This is where the Rotak really shines. With no cord, and enough power, this mower is very easy to push around.
And, there is no cord to thread through the window or constantly whipping around the cable trying not to mow over it and chop it up with the blades!
As with most mowers if you are cutting for the first time in spring or the lawn is extraordinarily long, make two passes – one with a higher setting first, and then one lower afterwards.
Potential Shortcomings
Batteries could potentially last longer – make sure you get the model with the 4AH batteries rather than the 2AH. If you have a large lawn or multiple lawns you are likely to need two batteries, which should provide you with at least an hour of mowing time – assuming the grass isn’t too long.
Also, if you leave the batteries charged for too long they can run down and become flat. To avoid this it is best to charge the batteries shortly before use.
